Course Description
This course will introduce and familiarize the Medical Office Assistant student with the basic legal knowledge required in a routine medical office setting. The student will become familiar with the latest legal issues encountered within the medical field. This course will introduce the student to the legal concepts surrounding standard of care, scope of employment, criminal and civil acts, contracts, negligence, and ethical concepts as they relate to the medical profession. A review of managed care, HIPAA and other health care legislative rulings will be discussed in each section throughout this course. Relevant case proceedings will be used to illustrate the legal and ethical aspects of the professional medical office setting.
Upon completion of this course the Medical Office Assistant student will be able to discuss and articulate the legal and ethical duties of their role within the medical office setting.
